In 2017, I’d set myself a reading goal of 72 books with an added challenge of reading an A-Z of authors. Both targets were surpassed but it was pretty exhausting, so for 2018 I decided I’m going to just read – no targets, no challenges…just pure unadulterated pleasure, with the excitement of seeing where that takes me. Having said that, I do have quite a back-list to get through of which, I am most excited about (slightly skewed towards fiction):
Fiction
Non-fiction
In addition, I have decided to revisit a few of my favourites this year, inspired by the saying headlining this post – “To read a book for the first time is to make a new acquaintance; to read it for a second time is to meet an old friend”. 2017 was a tough year in a lot of ways and books provided a welcome escape and refuge. I think 2018 is going to be a wonderful year, but right now, I am very much still in the frame of mind where I am seeking the comfort of the familiar.
Don’t get me wrong – there’s a few upcoming books that I can’t wait to get my hands on, but I think it’s a wonderful thing to be able to balance the excitement of the new with the comfort of the old…the best of both worlds.
My wishes for you in 2018 are that you’ll discover a new favourite author, that you’ll explore outside your comfort zone, and that you’ll find that one book that resonates so much you’ll tell everyone you know to read it even before you finish it. Happy reading!
